Backstage

Loved getting a look at the backstage area of a catwalk show, and seeing some of the amazing and crazy make-up that is used in the shows. Looking forward to being able to choose make up for the graduation parade!

Frock Stars - The Front Row

The second section of the Frock Stars gave you an idea of whats its like to sit front row at fashion week.

There were little cushions with names of the most influential people in Australian fashion who make up the front row at most shows!

They had a little glass case with a sketch book that belonged to an influential fashion writer, who said she tried to do quick sketches of everything she likes that comes down the runway so she can remember it all when its over!

Frock Stars - Part One

I finally found some time to go and check out the Frock Stars exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum and I have to say it was great! Lots of fun interactive elements and heaps to look at to give you a behind scenes look at Australian Fashion Week. The exhibition was broken up into 5 main sections, each showcasing a different element to the week. I will blog about each section in different posts because there was so much in each one!

The first section of the exhibition was a catwalk which showcased one outfit from each of the 15 years fashion week has been running. It was pretty crazy to see the kinds of things that were going the catwalk 10 years ago.
see below - this swimsuit was from Zimmerman's first show in 1996... cant believe this was ever in fashion but I guess it shows how quickly things come and go in trends. Hope this look NEVER comes back in..

The best look was from just last year - Romance Was Born Iced Vovo Dress. They are so unique and crazy and a good sign of the way Australian fashion has developed in the last 15 years.
There was a case full of invitations from different designers. They were so much fun, I would love to be able to design invites to my own show... even more so I'd love to get one of these invites myself!

Ksubi Live Steam!

Ksubi live streamed their parade this year with the help of Harpers Bazaar and I loved the idea... Did I love the concept of the show? Sure did. Did I love the collection in the show? not so much... it felt to me like Country Hicks meets Trailer Park Chic... There was a lot of denim on denim, which I think can sometimes work if its taken to a certain level.. but this for me just didn't reach that level. All the models were wearing trucker hats and huge platform shoes and I just wasn't mad on look as a whole. BUT I will give them this, they created an interesting catwalk idea, and the models all came from underground in the centre of a big circle. Wish that more designers did Live streaming because it gives people outside the industry a first hand look at whats being shown AND I didn't have to wait so long for Vogue or Grazia to get the collection online.

It began with surveillance camera like footage of men in black clothes holding up signs that related to Ksubi's concept of Non Zero Sum.

The Stage has everyone seated on the outer of a large circle and the models came from below the stage out of the centre box. I think it was quite effective and different, something Ksubi strives for in each show.

The boys were filmed from underground and help up a sign which said Thank You at the end of show. very sweet..

Its a Wrap!

Final day of fashion week today! All the fashionista's of Sydney can breathe out, take of their stilettos and put back on their UGG boots! Friday is when everything starts to wind down, however ksubi always closes the week. As we speak I am waiting for the parade to start, it is being live streamed though Harpers Bazaar TV, so i'll be getting some screen grabs and posting them right away. In the mean time, here are some looks from Friday!
